9-Ball LTC Results

We had another great tournament for the 9-ball LTC's.
Unfortunately, two teams didn't show up to compete but having less teams allowed us to complete the tournament in one very long day.
The most amazing story of the day had to be Just The Tip. They only had four players available for the tournament, but managed to squeak by opponent after opponent, all full teams, until they came up against A-Rack-No-Phobia in the semi-finals. They just couldn't get past them, and A-Rack-No-Phobia defeated them to advance.
We also saw Last Shot making their way through the win side to the semi-finals. Then they came up against Now We Know, who had been sent to the back side in the second round by A-Rack-No-Phobia. In the last match of their game, Ted Gill needed three points and luck would be with him. He snapped the 9-ball on the break, along with an additional ball, to make his three points in one shot and advance them to the finals as well.
So the grudge match began at 11:00pm between A-Rack-No-Phobia and Now We Know.
Pati Palmer led her team to an early lead in the first match, but the impressive playing by Brian Ambrose, Amber Bishop and Jeremy Bishop brought the team back into the match. The score was 42 to 38 after the fourth match and all either team needed was a win to take the tournament. Kris Sutterfield, an extremely capable SL4 was facing Jon Dissington, an equally competent SL6. Jon got out to an early lead, but Kris was right there, scoring enough points in each rack that the race was neck and neck. In the end, Jon, needing five points, managed to run them out, leaving Kris still needing three.
All of the players were exhausted after the end of this very long, very intense, tournament.
Congratulations to Now We Know for winning the 2010 LTC! We know you guys will have a great time in Vegas.
Thanks, as always, go out to our fabulous host, Club 41, and their staff of Lisa, Tabitha, Josi, and Autumn. Josi, especially, thanks for your patience and allowing us to finish up. We still got out at 2:30am, if only just!

Shannon

Well, we had a very successful LTC, despite the little table glitch. Thanks to all of you for keeping the tournament moving!
There were some really great matches this weekend, but I think the greatest one had to be Evie's Pocket Rockets vs. 8 Balls, 2 Racks from Last Call Tavern first thing Sunday morning. For those of you who didn't get to see it, you missed an incredible match. Battle though they did, Evie's missed advancing to the finals by one ball. Tiana, be proud girl, you played a fantastic game!
The semi-final match between Chalk It Up and Fat Sam's 1 Rack 14 Balls was good too. There was quite an upset in that match when Ric Bolduc took out Kim Dyer! If 1 Rack 14 Balls could have fielded another player, it very well may have been a different outcome. Moral of the story? Keep a full roster and make sure your players get their required plays!
In the end, it was Chalk It Up from Club 41 vs. 8 Balls 2 Racks from Last Call Tavern. Last Call was really looking for a repeat this year, and they played hard, but Chalk It Up managed to edge out past them for the win.

Congratulations to Chalk It Up from Club 41 in Venice for winning the Local Team Championship!
They will be headed to Vegas for the NTC's in August.

Shannon

While most matches were pretty close, Kris and Amber dominated many of their opponents. Coming through on the back side were underdogs Steve and Marty Smith playing as a SL5! They played smart and came out on top until they came up against Terry and Shawn Nerf, the first team that managed to make it past them. They continued to edge past opponent after opponent, however, until they came back to the win side to play undefeated Kris and Amber. Having to beat them twice was a daunting task as these two ladies had a very smooth, harmonious pace going all day.
Both teams played their best and were neck and neck for most of the game. Then, when they both just needed nine balls, Kris and Amber hit a stride and got a good lead. After several exchanges on a very stubborn 6 ball, the girls managed to finish it out.
Kris and Amber won $850 for travel expenses plus their $100 entry for the tournament in Vegas in August.
Congratulations again ladies! We know you'll do great in Vegas!

Results:
1st - Kris Sutterfield and Amber Bishop
2nd - Steve and Marty Smith
3rd - Jim and Cathy Swackhammer
4th - Ernie Lohmann and Sonia McKee

Shannon

Congratulations to Steve and Nina Myers for winning the 8-Ball Scotch Doubles Tournament!

We had a great turnout of 17 teams, and some really fantastic pool playing. Even splitting locations for the first couple of matches didn't affect the players in any way, everyone just took it in stride, and the event went very smoothly.
After getting knocked to the back side by Steve and Nina in the quarterfinals, Jason Pelley and Sarah Smith met with David Leventhal and Rodney Paradise, who battled the entire way through the board on the back side after losing their first match. They had a really close hill-hill match, with some great safety play going on. Jason and Sarah triumphed, though, to go into the finals against the only team they lost to in the entire tournament. Jason and Sarah, new to tournaments, ended up being victims of their own nerves against the veteran tournament players Steve and Nina.
Steve and Nina won $850 in travel expenses plus their slot in the National 8-Ball Doubles Tournament, worth $100, for a total value of $950!
All in all it was a fantastic tournament to watch and participate in!

Results:
1st - Steve and Nina Myers
2nd - Jason Pelley and Sarah Smith
3rd - David Leventhal and Rodney Paradise
4th - Terry Chatlos and David Mitchell

Thank you all for coming and we look forward to the next one!

Shannon
